Protecting your teeth to ensure a healthy, beautiful smile for years to come.
We work hard to make your visit to the dentist as enjoyable as possible. Efficient, experienced staff will help to make your check-ups quick, painless, and informative. Regular trips to your Calgary dentist are critical to maintaining oral health–a key part of your overall well being.
There are two major parts to a regular dental exam:
A dental hygienist will perform a thorough cleaning, removing any tartar that has built up between visits. This is extremely important, as tartar can only be properly removed during a professional cleaning; poor tartar control leads to tooth decay, periodontal disease, and potentially tooth loss. After the cleaning, your teeth will be flossed, and the hygienist will apply polish and administer a fluoride treatment.
Your dentist will make a comprehensive examination of your mouth, checking overall health and looking for any irregularities or areas of concern. They will look for any decay or cavities, cysts, symptoms of gum disease, signs that you have been clenching or grinding your teeth, and for abnormal tissue that may signal cancer. If you have had previous dental work done, your dentist will examine the affected areas to ensure they are holding up well.
Your dentist may take x-rays if the set they have on file is out of date. They will ask you about the health of your teeth and consult you on problem areas. If you have any concerns, such as tooth sensitivity or dull pain, regular exams are the appropriate time to bring them up. Your dentist may schedule a follow-up visit if additional work needs to be done.
Regular dental appointments will help to keep your teeth clean, healthy, and free of decay. Developing issues can be identified and treated before they become serious. You should see your make an appointment every 6 months to a year, depending on your oral health and the recommendation of your dentist.
